Custom Order Policy
Custom Order Policy
Custom work is a core part of Leopold Woodworks. Every custom piece is built by hand and made specifically for the customer, which means clear communication, approved details, and a defined process are essential before production begins.
1. Getting Started
Custom projects begin through the custom build form, direct inquiry, or other approved communication. Customers should provide as much detail as possible, including dimensions, intended use, wood preference, finish, style, and any reference images when available.
2. Deposit Requirement
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required before any custom order begins. This deposit secures your place in the production schedule and covers design time, planning, material sourcing, and preparation.
3. When a Custom Order Officially Begins
A custom order officially begins once the 50% non-refundable deposit has been received and all project details have been approved. This includes agreed dimensions, design direction, wood choice, finish, and any other relevant specifications discussed before production.
4. Approvals and Project Details
It is the customer’s responsibility to review and approve all project details before work begins. Leopold Woodworks is not responsible for issues resulting from incorrect or incomplete information that was approved by the customer before production.
5. Changes After Approval
Once a custom order has been approved and production has begun, any requested changes may result in additional charges and may extend the timeline. Changes to size, material, finish, design direction, or other specifications are not guaranteed to be possible once work is underway.
6. Pricing
Custom project pricing is based on design complexity, dimensions, material selection, finish, labor, and any special requests. Estimates are provided in good faith based on the information available at the time.
If the scope of the project changes, pricing may be updated accordingly.
7. Lead Times
Most custom projects are completed within 1–2 weeks, but timelines may vary depending on the complexity of the build, finish curing time, material availability, and current workload. Estimated timelines are provided as good-faith estimates and are not guaranteed delivery dates.
8. Wood Grain, Color, and Natural Variation
Because wood is a natural material, each piece will vary slightly in grain, tone, texture, and overall character. These natural variations are part of the uniqueness of handmade work and are not considered defects.
9. Finishes and Appearance
Finish appearance may vary slightly depending on the wood species, grain pattern, and how the material accepts stain or oil. Leopold Woodworks makes every effort to achieve the agreed design direction, but exact duplication of a previous piece or photograph may not always be possible.
10. Final Payment
Final payment must be completed before shipment, delivery, or pickup unless otherwise agreed in writing.
11. Shipping, Delivery, and Pickup
Shipping costs for custom projects are calculated separately or at checkout depending on the order. Local delivery may be available within 50 miles of Whittier for an additional fee. Local pickup may also be arranged once the project is complete.
12. Returns, Refunds, and Cancellations
All custom orders are final sale once production begins. Deposits are non-refundable. Because custom work is made specifically for the customer, cancellations, returns, and exchanges are not accepted after production has started.
13. Damaged Custom Orders
If a custom order arrives damaged, the customer must contact Leopold Woodworks within 7 days of delivery with photos of the item, packaging, and shipping label. If the damage is confirmed, we will work to repair or replace the item as appropriate.
14. Right to Refuse a Project
Leopold Woodworks reserves the right to decline or cancel a custom project before production begins if the request falls outside the scope of services offered, cannot be completed as requested, or involves unreasonable or abusive conduct.
15. Contact and Communication
Clear communication is important to every custom build. If you have questions before placing a custom order, please use the custom build form or contact page so details can be discussed before the project is scheduled.
